Licking Valley loses to Bishop Watterson 27-6, Panthers offense struggles, Barsotti goes out hurt

HANOVER, OH - The Licking Valley Panthers fall to The Bishop Watterson Eagles Friday night 27-6 in an underwhelming offensive showing from the Panthers. Bishop Watterson showed up ready to play and came out strong getting on the board first. The Eagles Treyton Mercer would run for a touchdown and Dom Orsini would add a 2 point conversion giving the Eagles 8 by the end of the 1st quarter. The Eagles Danny Siegel would rush for 2 TD's in the second quarter helping them go into halftime up 22-0. The Eagles would keep Licking Valley from the endzone for the entire first half.


On the Panther first possession of the 2nd half, and with 7:40 left in the 3rd quarter, Bishop Watterson would pull Panthers QB So. Hayden Rodgers down in the endzone for a safety adding 2 more to the Eagles point tally. But Valley wouldn't quit and Colton Carr was finally able to get to the Panthers into endzone by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Pantehrs would go for 2 but the 2-point conversion was no good ending the 3rd quarter with a score of 24-6.


The Eagles would get the ball back with a little over 7 minutes left in the game and drive down the field on 13 plays burning up as much of the clock as they could. With 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter Bishop Watterson would bring Rudy Kessinger on the field to kick the 43 yard field goal, putting Bishop Watterson up 27-6 and sealing the Panther fate.

Bishop Watterson's QB Ryan Rudzinski went 17-24 for 127 yards passing, threw 2 interceptions and ran the ball 7 times for 25 yards. Watterson's Treyton Mercer ran the ball 28 times for 104 yards and made 3 catches. Brandon Trout would make 6 catches for 57 yards and Danny Siegel would run the ball 12 times for 47 yards and would score 2 of Bishop Watterson's touchdowns.


The Panthers Hayden Rodgers would only go 8 for 23 only throwing for 105 yards. Rodgers ran the ball 11 times for 100 yards. Trent Clark averaged 10 yards per catch gaining 40 yards on his 4 catches. Colton Carr would carry the ball 4 times and score the Panthers only TD of the night.


Panthers RB Sr. Isaac Barsotti went out of the game Friday with an ankle injury in the first half. (Below is a picture sequence of his injury happening) Barsotti only carried the ball 4 times for 5 yards Friday night. As of Wednesday Barsotti posted a picture to his Instagram account of his foot in a soft cast. Barsotti told Ohio Sports Today on Wednesday quote:


"Its (his ankle) sprained and has what they call a shepherds fracture, but we are mainly treating it for the sprain. Doctors are going to reassess it after 2 weeks and I may be back on the field in 3 weeks if everything goes right".


Bishop Watterson is now 2-2 and the Panthers drop to 1-2. Watterson will play Whitehall at home this Friday. This will only be Whitehall's 2nd game of the season. Licking Valley will play Northridge at home this Friday night. Kick-off is 7pm for both games.
