Omaha Storm Chasers score 7 runs in 2nd and 5 runs in the 5th, Defeating Columbus Clippers 14-4

Last night was not the Clippers (44-50) night as they suffered a decisive loss to the Omaha Storm Chaser (51-43) in their last game of the 6 game stretch. The Clippers fell to Omaha 14-4 and have lost their last 2 games in a row after winning 7 straight. With the loss the Clippers still remain in 5th place in the AAA Midwest division and are now 8.5 games back. The Storm Chasers remain in 3rd place and are now only 1.5 games back behind the 1st place Toledo Mud Hens (53-42).


The Clippers threw 6 pitchers and all 6 struggled from the mound Sunday. As a team the Clippers pitchers gave up 2 home runs, walked 9 batters, allowed 14 hit and had only 7 strikeouts. The Clippers started pitcher J.C. Mejia, who was optioned to the Clippers from the Cleveland Indians on Aug. 8th. This was his 6th start for the Clippers this season. Mejia, now 0-3, faced 14 batters, walked 4 and allowed 6 runs on 5 hits. All in just 1 2/3 innings. Heath Fillmyer faced 15 batters and gave up 5 runs, 6 hits and walked 3 batters.


The Storm Chasers had 2 stand out innings that the Clippers just couldn't match. The Storm Chasers scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning and then 5 more runs in the 5th inning. A couple of the Clippers did bring their bats though. Oscar Gonzalez and Gavin Collins both homered for the Clippers. That is Collins 4th home run of the season. Gonzalez now has 7 home runs, 19 RBI's and is batting .304 for the 2021 MiLB season.
